Associated Press plans HD upgrade

Hybrids here we come. The Associated Press has announced a “multi-million dollar investment to upgrade its newsgathering infrastructure” with the goal to provide high definition images to the broadcast and digital photography industries.

The move to “state-of-the-art cameras” by its video journalists will also allow Associated Press to distribute higher quality grabs to clients of its photography service. “We’ll take frame grabs from high-def video as a first strike way of getting news out to photo subscribers as we do now when no stills are available,” Paul Colford, Associated Press’ director of media relations, told the British Journal of Photography.
