In 2012 YouTube users watched over 4 billion hours of video a month. The biggest trending video of the year was the “Gangnam Style” music video by South Korean superstar Psy. According to YouTube, the song racked up nearly 1 billion views in just 6 months, making it the most-watched YouTube video ever.

This time last year the site’s most popular video was Rebecca Black’s weekend anthem “Friday,” which at the time of YouTube’s 2011 Rewind had amassed a total of 179,869,966 views.
