“The father of Rehtaeh Parsons maintains that had changes been made to Bill C-13, it could have saved his daughters life. He appeared before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights and shared some thoughts on Bill C-13. Saying he knows there are concerns with C-13, but if there was something “better on the table” he’d be all over it. Canning believes police have to have the ability to act fast when it comes to cyber-crime or their response is pointless, as children’s rights and privacy are already being violated online through numerous ways including cyberbullying, sextortion and revenge pornography.”
