‘Break the Silence’ by the Ngukkur #WhiteRibbon

With the help of White Ribbon Australia, the Ngukkur community in Arnhem Land is a finalist in this year’s NT Song of the Year. The children in the video wrote ‘Break the Silence’ together. This is both an inspiring video to watch and share as well as a powerful message against violence.

You can cast your vote here. They definitely deserve it!

BREAK THE SILENCE

PREChorus
We gotta stand up and make a choice
We gotta speak up and be one voice
We gotta show respect and stop the violence
Together we can break the silence

CHORUS
So let’s break the silence– stop the violence
Let’s break the silence – stop the violence
Let’s break the silence – stop the violence
Stand up, Speak Up and Sing it out loud

Roper girls strong and we’re here to represent
Laying down the truth for our future for our present

We are all family no matter what color
All my ladies call it out for me I SAID R.E.S.P.E.C.T
Us sister want a man who lets us shine
Us sister want a man who respects our line
Strong is not jealous, Strong is not rough
Strong is being kind when the times are tough
We can’t and we wont just let it be Can’t stop won’t stop till equality
I Swear, I swear to break the silence
Sister girls yarn up, stop the violence

BOYS VERSE
No room for abuse, verbal or physical
Gonna paint a picture up to you to make a visual
being a man is about being strong
Make right choices know right from wrong
I wanna be a leader and a good father
Spread the right messages to all of our brothers
So the next generation can hear us clear
So our mothers and sisters don’t live in fear
To show how I feel I wear a white ribbon
Violence against women you gotta be kidding
It’s time to stand up stand out and be the change
If you need some help, well that can be arranged
We must speak up and break the silence
Time for change, answer not violence
Come on brotherman it’s our responsibility
Respecting one another and living with equality
